AIR TO FAKIE

a trick tip with Elena Hight

After mastering an Air to Fakie, it becomes one of the best tricks to throw on trannies because you just float. Whether you're doing it in a Superpipe, a huge quarter, or just playing around in the mini-pipe or a natural hit, this trick always feels fun. When going for an Air to Fakie on a quarterpipe or in a halfpipe, make sure that you've got a spot you're comfortable hitting, you're prepared for a semi-blind landing and that you're ready to float away.

[1] Approach the quarterpipe with plenty of speed. It always feels like you have way more than you think because the tranny takes away so much of it. So scare yourself a bit and really point it.

[2] Come in as flat-based as possible. Keep your knees bent going up the transition. Shift your weight onto your back foot while going up the wall.

[3] Ollie when you reach the lip. Keep your shoulders and body centred over your board so that you don't begin to rotate while in the air.

[4] Grab and tweak. My favourite is to grab tail for an Air to Fakie, but you can do a Melon, Japan, Indy, Nose—whatever you can dream of.

[5] Spot your landing and keep your knees bent on your way back into the transition.

[6] Stomp and ride away switch, looking over your lead shoulder.
