Seven glorious days of perfect summer glacier weather, pristine park conditions, goggle tans, burnt lips, snow burns, smiles, lake swims, and air-time. May I present to you, Billabong week at Camp of Champions.
A cloud count of zero and weather forecasts boasting no lower than 25 degrees, to say that we lucked out on the weather is a serious understatement. Early uploads to beat the t-bar line and get in as much riding in as possible was everyone’s goal. This year there was a 20% larger park built and groomed to perfection thanks to Arena Snowparks.
Billabong team riders from Whistler and across the globe showed up to shred with the campers. They included Eero Niemela, Odd Roar Solerod, Jorn Simen Aaboe, Scot Brown, Rube Goldberg, Possum Torr, Helen Schettini, Alex Duckworth, Brooke Voigt, Jenna Blasman, Natalie Allport and myself. Two “Send It With” sessions were held at camp, where the campers had a chance to shred with the Billabong team. The first was held at the smaller double line hip, stepping it up to the larger hip at the bottom of the park for the final session.
After a full day of shredding, the team headed straight to the lake to cool off, even out their goggle tans, and have a nap before heading back to the compound for one of the numerous activities such as, dodgeball, skateboarding and paintball with the campers.
