Billabong Flaunts It Way to Blue

Feb 20, 2010

Author: Ilissa Maiatico

Blue Mountain, ON – Female snowboarders from across Ontario and beyond headed to Blue Mountain, Ontario, today to strut their stuff for the third stop of the 2010 Billabong Flaunt It series. With TTR points up for grabs and $2,000 on the line, impressing the judges was on everyone’s mind.

The morning kicked off with the slopestyle contest in the TELUS terrain park. With the sun shining, free hot chocolate handed out by Brian White of Unlimited Sales and Ontario’s own Jon Roth on the mic, things got off to a great start. The slopestyle course featured various jumps and rails for the girls session during the one-hour jam. Honourable mentions go out Victoria Marshall for throwing down a huge Cab 360 and Jenna Blasman for stomping a Frontside 540. After lunch everyone stepped up their game during the rail jam. With two rails to choose from, most girls opted to throw down stylish 50-50’s on the kinked rail.

At the awards ceremony, Jenna, Victoria and Catriona Boyd were crowned the rail jam winners taking first, second and third place. However, when all was said and done Jenna Blasman was able to reclaim her title from last year by taking the top spot in the slopestyle category. Along with bragging rights, she walked away with $700, a gold 42-20 Nixon “Flaunt It” watch, plus flight and accomodations to the series finals. The Flaunt It final 3Star TTR event will go down on March 27 at Mont Tremblant. Joining Jenna will be the top winner from each tour stop, all vying for their share of the $10,000 cash purse.

Now in it’s third year, the Flaunt It continues to raise the bar for female snowboarders. “I think it’s great that there’s a girls only contest. It creates less pressure and they all feed off each other,” Thomas Webb of Unlimited Sales said. White agreed saying, “it’s nice to have the spotlight on the girls.”

The remaining Flaunt It events are set for February 27 at Waterville Valley, March 7 at Sierra-At-Tahoe and March 13 at Mount Seymour. The Flaunt It series is sponsored by Billabong, Dakine, Von Zipper, Nixon, Swatch TTR, Snowboard Canada Women’s Annual and TWSnow.
