December Rider of the Month: JESS KIMURA

Dec 1, 2008

Author: Sara Tollestrup

If you don't know who Jessica Kimura is then pay attention -- this girl's got skills. After winning the Volcom Peanut Butter and Rail Jam finals a few seasons ago she was sidelined by an injury only to come back stronger than ever with a profile in Snowboard Canada and a feature story in this year's Women's Annual. The pieces not only showcase her rail and jib riding and mountain powers, but also her newfound writing skills as well. Keep an eye out for this girl. With her balls-out shred style and don't-give-an-F attitude, she's sure to turn more heads this season.

What are your plans for the month?
Shred; do some filming with Gnarcore in the Whistler area.

What is something you've learned this month?
Drinking is not the answer... [laughs]

Where is the craziest place snowboarding has taken you?
Saas Fe in Switzerland.

Who is your favourite person to travel with?
Probably Dykeboy, 'cause we've been rolling together since Grade 8 soccer trips.

How do you entertain yourself on long flights?
Watch snowboard videos over and over, or pass out to some music.

What is one item you will not go snowboarding without?
Some sort of pocket candy.

What is your favourite apres shred meal?
Poutine! It's also my favourite pre-shred and during-shred meal [laughs].

Aside from snowboarding, how do you stay strong and healthy?
Eat lots of junk food and watch TV so I can beef up for the winter.

What is something the average person doesn't know about pro snowboarding?
There are a couple of douchebags out there.

What is one thing people should know about you?
I'm a master of Karate

What is your all time favourite movie?
All the Think Thank videos.

Which female snowboarder has influenced you the most?
Janna Meyen

Who is currently raising the bar in women's snowboarding?
MoFo obviously, and Desiree Melancon keeps shit legit. Jamie Anderson also has alot of skills and a good attitude towards snowboarding. So do the other two.

If you could give one piece of advice to women, snowboarders or not, what would it be?
Three things: Be nice to people, don't be a pussy, and scare yourself often.
