Maybe I'm a fan of the underdog, or maybe I'm just a fan of people who are passionate and driven. Either way what the Peep Show crew accomplished with their film project this season is impressive, especially with so few resources. There are no cable cams or helicopters in this movie but it has a lot of heart and soul.
Highschooler Marie Hucal starts the movie off with a whole bunch of butters. The best part of her segment is that it captures how much fun she has when she snowboards. The music in Marie's part, and throughout the whole movie for that matter, is awesome. Way back tracks from the Velvet Underground and The Seeds add to the film's good vibe.
Next up is Colleen Quigley who has one of the most well-rounded parts in the flick with park, pipe, powder and jib shots. Colleen has good, smooth style. This girl is definitely underrated.
June Bhongjan and Esthera Preda produced, edited, directed and did much, much more for the movie but still managed a shared part with Desiree Melancon. It starts off with a crash montage that is hilariously edited to the tune of "Can't Help Falling In Love." Thankfully the song is the Dead Moon rendition rather than the UB40 one. The only rightful place for UB40's version was a high school dance in 1993. After the montage the girls' real segment rolls. Highlights from their part include June's fence gap, Esthera's ledge nose press and Desiree's 5-0 to 180 outs.
In the mid section of the movie Laurie Gauvin, Bev Vuilleumier and Leanne Pelosi each offer up some good shots. Laurie's best shots are a ledge, a nose press down a long flat street rail and the last rail shot which is a banger. Bev's intro is perfect for her BEV persona. The intro is followed up with some fun looking park action. Leanne's shots, presumably her B shots since she has a shared part in Black Winter, show her experience with filming.
Jess Kimura is gnarly. Her slams hurt to watch. She has a solid part and is highly deserving of the coveted closer. The best shots from Jess are a couple of really cool one footers. Her part overall is creative and stylish. Even her 2 skate shots look good.
If you haven't already seen it make sure to check out Peep Show. They may not have big budgets or even big names, but their film is definitely one of the best all-female films out there.
