Jul 9, 2010

Author: Ilissa Maiatico, Photos: Brian Hockenstein

Coming straight out of Germany, Euro shred Vera Janssen relocated to Whistler a few years back. From being the only girl on Alterna’s film roster, to claiming the infamous Queen of the Hill title in Alaska this winter, and currently coaching for Camp of Champions, she’s leads one busy life. Lucky for us, Vera recently let us in on her High 5ives.

Sights to see in Germany:

1.) Dom cathedral and the nightlife in Cologne
2.) Many, many breweries
3.) Kiez in Hamburg
4.) Berlin’s nightlife and culture
5.) Zugspitze, Germany's highest mountain and glacier

Best things about the King of the Hill contest:

1.) Shred with the legends such as Shawn Farmer, Mike Basich, Julie Zell and Nick Perata
2.) Learn about their views on snowboarding
3.) It's part of the Tailgate Alaska World Freeride Festival
4.) Twelve heli drops and an engraved sword for 1st place
5.) Thompson Pass, Valdez is the ultimate snowboard destination

On coaching at Camp of Champs:

1.) Peeing behind the rocks on the Blackcomb glacier
2.) Having Ken make fun of you for four weeks
3.) PartySnakes come to town
4.) Everyone tries to get a hold of Fabia
5.) You get to show girls what snowboarding is all about

Best things about filming with Alterna:

1.) Living my dream
2.) Being able to express myself through snowboarding -exactly how I want to
3.) Being a girl in guy’s movies - just like it always used to be!
4.) Riding with my friends
5.) Shredding powder

Euro snowboarders to keep an eye out for:

1.) Marco Feichtner
2.) Marc Swoboda
3.) Julia Baumgartner
4.) Tadej Valentan
5.) Gigi Ruef
