Rad Galz posse up for end-of-season session

On Saturday March 21, over 30 Rad Galz from across Ontario gathered together at Horseshoe Resort for an all-girls event. Everyone met up at the base of the hill in the morning and things got underway in the terrain park shortly after. Instead of throwing a contest, Rad Galz organizer Sarah Johnson decided to host an end of season “Galz Snowboard and Ski Gathering.” Decked in custom Rad Galz "One Love" jerseys, everyone took turns sessioning the park, catching up with old friends and making new ones along the way and, of course, learning a few new tricks.

The idea of the event was to get girls to come ride together and have fun without feeling like they had to compete against each other. “I feel really stoked as this was meant to be a low key event and there’s been lots of buzz about it," Johnson says. "There’s definitely lots of upcoming talent. Ontario just keeps growing and the girls just keep progressing."

“Riding with the girls is so sweet," says Rad Galz shredder Kylie McGrail who attended the event. "I can learn stuff from them and it’s so chill compared to riding with guys.” Sam Denena, another participant over the weekend, says “It’s more intimidating to ride with guys. Here you get to meet new girls. It’s also a really fun experience even if you’ve never ridden before. It’ll get you pumped to ride.”

Aside from park riding there were tons of activities going on all day. From a hula-hoop tournament to Twister games and an on-hill basketball contest there were smiles all around. The highlight of the day came shortly after with an on-hill fashion show complete with a potpourri runway. Select Rad Galz participants modeled pieces from Spacecraft’s fall lineup and Ripcurl’s 2010 outerwear line.

The fun didn’t stop there with constant prize giveaways all afternoon long. The big winner of the day was Kylie who walked away with a 2010 Nitro Pro One-Off Cheryl Mass snowboard.

The Rad Galz gathering was sponsored by: Ripcurl, Spacecraft, Me to We Style, Osiris, Nitro, Atomic snowboards, L1 outerwear, Snowboard Canada Women’s Annual Magazine and The Baitshop. Check out the Rad Galz site for more information on upcoming events.

Sam Denena catches some airtime.

Leanna King killed rails all day.

Having fun on the down-flat-down rail.

All the girls took turns sessioning the box in a follow-the-leader format.

The King sisters got Rad Galz a new recruit: the one-man circus.

The Twister game got a little, ummm, twisted.

Nothing like a little Rad Galz b-ball game to get the fun started.

Impressing the judges to win free swag.
