Breanna Stangeland Wins SBCWOMEN.COM Best Trick at Mt. Seymour You Look Good Rider’s Cup

Feb 26, 2009

Author: Christina Raymond, Photos: Richard Roth

After an awesome sunny day of competing alongside 150 other riders last Saturday at the second stop of the You Look Good Rider’s Cup at Mt. Seymour, Breanna Stangeland walked away with an extra $500 in hand courtesy of the sbcwomen.com Best Trick prize.  We caught up with Breanna following her win to find out her plans for the rest of the riding season, her thoughts on women’s snowboarding and more.

NAME: Breanna Stangeland
AGE: 20
YEARS RIDING: 5
YEARS COMPETING: 4
SPONSORS: Forum, Special Blend, Smith, The Source
HOMETOWN: Calgary
HOME MOUNTAIN: Whistler

WHAT TRICK WON YOU THIS AWESOME AWARD?
I guess it was my nose slide to front board little maneuver.

WHAT DO YOU THINK ABOUT THE NEW sbcwomen.com BEST TRICK PRIZE?
Oh man, I’m so stoked on it. I think it's really sweet. I mean those guys are out there doing some crazy stuff, but the girls are trying just as hard. All those girls were doing some crazy tricks. It was good to see girls pushing it. I feel like all the girls were pushing just a bit harder to really go for the bigger prize money.

WHAT OTHER CONTESTS WILL WE SEE YOU AT THIS SEASON?
Well there's so many this year. I think I might take some time and head east. Maybe hit up the Triple Challenge and the Shakedown, perhaps the Snow Mission and definitely the Billabong Flaunt It finals. I want to go to as many as I can because I have fun at contests and I think they really help me to push myself to progress.

WHERE IS THE COOLEST PLACE YOU HAVE EVER BEEN SNOWBOARDING?
I grew up riding Lake Louise and Sunshine so I love riding around there. There's always something new to find when riding those mountains. When I moved to Whistler it was such a new experience, so much to explore and the park is definitely my favourite ever.

WHAT WOULD BE YOUR DREAM SNOWBOARD TRIP?
I don't really care where I am, as long as I am with my friends. Anywhere where my friends are having fun and its sunny and lots of pow or a good park day. DYLAN!

WHAT FEMALE RIDERS ARE YOU STOKED ON AND WHY?
Right now I’m stoked on Raeywn Reid. We grew up riding together and she has progressed so much, I’m so happy she's done so well and I couldn’t be more proud of her. Silvia Mittermueller is another girl, I rode with her at the Canadian Open and she just makes snowboarding so much fun. She loves snowboarding and has such a good attitude towards it.

IF YOU COULD SPEND THE DAY RIDING WITH ANYONE IN THE WORLD WHO WOULD IT BE AND WHY?
Tupac, obviously!

SHOUT OUTS?
My Parents, Andrew Hicks, Brett Sanford, Sarah, Georgia, Taryn, Raeywn, Lindsay, and Bayshores house!
