High 5ives! with Quincy Korte-King

Mar 8, 2012

Author: Ilissa Maiatico

Quincy Korte-King is a ball of energy. I first met her two years ago at the Camp of Champions, where I got to witness first hand that not only does she kill it on snow but she can also tear it up on a mini ramp. Always down for a good time, you’ll likely find Quincy in the announcer’s booth at events like the Burton Canadian Open after she’s completed her runs. Aside from summer glacier shredding, Qunicy’s getting her studies on at Stratton Mountain School, following in the steps of Alexis Waite, Ellery Hollingsworth, Louie Vito and Danny Davis. Look out for Quincy as she continues to compete in both halfpipe and slopestyle events on an international level (ex: the 2012 Winter Youth Olympic Games in Innsbruck, Austria). At 16 years young, she’s already a force to be reckoned with. -Aimee Maiatico

Why you first started snowboarding:
1. The obvious cool factor.
2. Being different from my family history of ski racers.
3. One plank is better than two
4. That little voice inside my five-year-old head telling me to ask Santa for a snowboard
5. Being a parkrat was clearly my calling early on

Highlights from the Winter Youth Olympic Games:
1. Meeting kids from all over the world that are in the same boat as me, except they're on track to become things like professional lugers and ski jumpers
2. Schnitzel and Milka chocolate all the time
3. European pow days
4. Meeting people by connecting your special USB sticks (aka Yogging, who knew there was such a thing?)
5. Being part of team Canada

Perks to attending Stratton Mountain School:
1. Snowboarding every day
2. Super cooperative and supportive teachers
3. Riding with the SMS crew
4. Greatest coaches ever
5. Special treatment for being the Canadian

Snowboard goals:
1. Have fun
2. Stay safe
3. Turn heads
4. Travel lots
5. Go sledding

Shred heroes:
1. Nicolas Muller
2. Marie-France Roy
3. Tara Dakides
4. Terje Haakonsen
5. Jess Kimura
