Travelogue: Esthera Preda

May 16, 2010

Author: Sara Tollestrup

Esthera Preda is from Quebec's capital, Quebec city, but she has literally been all over the map for the past few months filming for Peep Show's third all-girls film (www.peepshowpresents.blogspot.com). We caught up with Preda who is currently in Alaska to hear about her travels from east to west and south to north.

Name the last 4 places you've been, and why you were there.
1. Salt Lake City. I went there to meet up with Laura Hadar and one of our filmers, Matt Charland. From there we did some filming at Brighton, and in Idaho and Colorado.
2. Minnesota. We (Laura Hadar, June Bhongjan, Desiree Melancon) went there to film and meet up with the Michilots and Christy Chaloux. This was probably one of the most productive trips of the season.
3. Big Bear. That's where most of the Peep Show crew is based. We went there for the Ashbury demo and for Miss Superpark which was held at Snow Summit.
4. Alaska. I'm currently filming in AK with Desiree Melancon, Tarah Michilot and Jonas Michilot.

What is the funniest story from your trip to Salt Lake City?
Our filmer's dream was to go to the Flow Rider indoor surf wave. So Laura (Hadar) took us to Provo to find one. No one had experienced an indoor wave before. It was just the funniest thing to see everyone getting broke off. I know it's just water but it's not okay. It hurts! Everyone was so sore the next day.

Laura Hadar, hey. Sounds like Peep Show has some new riders on the roster.
Yeah and more riders will have full parts which will reflect their riding and personalities. We've also gone on more trips this season.

You said Minnesota was one of the most productive trips of the season. Why?
I just feel like we did a lot. We had to split the crew up, and that's maybe why we got a lot out of it. Also the Michilot brothers, Danimals and Brandon Larson definitely helped us out. They showed us the good spots, helped shovel, pulled the bungee, gave us shelter and so on. Thanks again guys!

What was the highlight of Minnesota?
Hanging out with all of the girls and the Michilot family. I finally got to meet Tarah in person. She's such a different and creative individual. She's also an amazing snowboarder. She definitely has some of the best style out there.

You got to hang out and ride with your buddy June in Minnesota too. What's the best thing about traveling with her?
It's basically like traveling with my sister. June is really calm and patient, so it makes me think twice before making important decisions. She's also a perfectionist.  She never does things half way. Our brains are super connected, we're like siamese twins. Sometimes we freak out when we're apart! So yep --the best thing about traveling with June is the chemistry we have together (laughs).

Who killed it at Miss Superpark?
Desiree Melancon, Jess Kimura, Laura Hadar (who almost killed herself), Colleen Quigley, Tarah Michilot, Marie Hucal, Celia Miller. Basically they just rode everyday and every night and hit all of the features. They were there from the first day until the very last day...and god knows the weather sucked at some points that week.

Now you're in Alaska. Is this your first time there?
Yep.

What is it like going to Alaska for the first time? Is it what you expected?
Ever since I was a kid I've always wanted to come here, so for me it's like going to Disneyland for the first time. It's exactly like I thought it was going to be. Strangely, some parts of Anchorage strongly remind me of Quebec.

Is it steep and scary?
The mountains are definitely steep, but we've been mostly hitting rails on this trip. We rode Alyeska once. Tons of fun trannies and the best view ever. Alaska is honestly one of the prettiest places I've visited.

Who is showing you guys around up there?
We're staying with our friend Gus Engle. Gus and his friends are so fun to snowboard with and just hang out with in general. Everything about this trip is just so magical.

What's next after AK?
Home! June and I will be editing for the next few months...trying to create magic. And of course we'll be up at COC (Camp of Champions) and Mt. Hood later this summer.
