How I spent my summer vacation
With Robin Van Gyn
Taking a break from the snow is important to me (not for too long though!). Late spring after some serious slush-shredding I usually head back to Vancouver Island and enjoy a bit of island life. On any given day I could be sailing (my personal favourite), crabbing, tanning at the beach, hitting up rope swings at the lake, and sometimes I manage to get up Island for a bit of surfing (I suck but I am getting better). I grew up sailing with my family so getting back out there helps me remember all those skills that are easily forgotten after a long winter. This part of my year is short but sweet, because well, I can’t get enough snow ever.
I’m heading up to Whistler for the Camp of Champions MGT Girls session in mid-July for eight days of spreading the shred to lady-killers everywhere. Watch out guys, MGT is taking over! In late July I head out to South America to get my pow fix with the likes of Andrew Burns, Karolina Kluz and some other American misfits. For the last two years I have been working with South America Snowboard Sessions teaching kids to rip it up backcountry style. From booter-building, riding mountain lines, and avalanche training to sick sessions in the park, SASS has it all. Check it out at sasnowsessions.com. Nothing beats this trip—new faces, cheap beer and snow as high as the cars. Look for updates on my trip to Argentina this August..
