How I Spent My Summer Vacation:
Dominique Vallee
Every year, Annie and I try to do a trip down south where the water is warm and the surf is good. A few months ago we decided to go to Mexico since neither of us had ever been and it was so close to where we were in San Diego for the trade show. So after booking our flights and researching everything online, off we went to Sayulita. The trip there went super smooth and we were in our little Palapas by the beach in time to surf the sunset session right out front.
We met lots of the locals right off the bat since it was the dead season when we got there and we stuck out. We met two girls from Montreal that lived there and we all became great friends. They showed us around the various surf breaks in the area. It was perfect!
After a week down there we met up with Benji Ritchi and his friend Luc. Together, we all drove south in Luc’s truck to a native reserve called La Ticla. There was nothing there but huge surf. Unfortunately, a hurricane hit us pretty hard. Lots of land and beach got washed out, but we stayed a while longer until the boys had to fly out again.
After a bit of traveling around there we went north again, back to Sayulita to see our friends. This time we rented a car and made boat trips almost everyday to La Punta Mita.
It was the best trip ever; friends to keep in touch with and lots of stories from. Annie getting sea urchins stuck in her foot and me getting locked into a hotel bathroom and the guys having to rescue me.
Annie just went back and this time I couldn’t go with her. She probably hates me for it right now—sorry Annie, we’ll go for another surf trip soon.
