Quiksilver Showdown Over the City

$20K in cash. TTR 3-Star event. New course location.

One of Canada’s largest Pro-Am contests takes place on Grouse Mountain March 28th and 29th. The Quiksilver Showdown Over the City brings together the best professional and amateur riders from around the world to Vancouver’s backyard playground. For the first time, this event is included in the TTR World Tour as a 3-Star event. With a $20,000 cash purse up for grabs and international recognition, this annual Grouse Mountain event has reached new peaks. This year features a brand new, never-seen before, custom course on Lower Peak. The new course allows greater views for media, and spectators, but will also challenge and excite competitors.

“This is, hands down, the biggest snowboard event to hit Vancouver” says Jeff Silcock, Events Manager at Grouse Mountain. “Being selected by the TTR World Tour means this year’s event will attract even more elite pro riders looking to add extra points to their cache. It is a rare opportunity to showcase this level of talent in Vancouver. The new course on Lower Peak should also draw some big crowds as it’s a short walk from the skyride and the views are astounding.”

With the course being located literally at the Peak of Vancouver, it is a prime spot for both film and photo opportunities. The course will consist of one jump setup with multiple takeoffs leading into a jib setup with multiple jibs and combos The backdrop of the new course affords panoramic views spanning Mt. Baker, across the city’s landscape and onward to the Vancouver gulf islands. From the patio of the mountaintop ‘Rusty Rail’, spectators can take in the action while enjoying the patio scene.

As winter turns to spring, the weekend events include a Friday qualifying round, Friday night Jib Session Invitational, Saturday Park Session Invitational, Coors Light Apres Lounge in Altitude’s Bistro, Rusty Rail outdoor BBQ and a Coors Light after party at the Lamplighter in Gastown.
