Burton Global Open Series Announces 2008/2009 Competition Dates
First official Canadian Open set for Calgary’s COP

The snow might be gone, but here’s some news to get you stoked for next season: Burton has just announced the dates for the Burton Global Open Series 2008/2009. The competition kicks off in New Zealand on July 29 and stops in five countries across the world before finishing off in the US in March of next year.
Though this marks its third consecutive year, it will be a first for Canada. After last year’s unexpected cancellation, the Series will hold the first official Canadian Open at Canada Olympic Park, Dec. 1 to 7.
Riders will earn points based on their final standing in slopestyle and/or halfpipe runs during each of the six events, allowing them to, literally, show the world what they’ve got. The female and male rider with the highest combined score earns the largest winning sum ever given out for snowboarding; 100 000 bucks in cold hard cash.
Last year, Peetu Piiroinen of Finland was awarded the male championship title alongside Torah Bright, who took home her second straight Burton Global Open win.
The Series will be launching its website later this week with access to bios and shots of participating riders.
