Opening Day at Lake Louise
Robin Van Gyn checks in from opening day at the Lake where her and a gang of other Alberta shredders kicked off the season.
The snow fell hard and so did our crew of misfit lady shredders on opening day at Lake Louise. The crew formed slowly throughout the morning after being separated by the lift line that was as long as Wiwaxy 500 [Wiwaxy is a run at Lake Louise].
The girls included Karolina Kluz, Raewyn Reid, Taryn Cowling, Breanna Stageland, and myself, Robin Van Gyn. After high fives and exchanging heinous summer stories, we started the much-anticipated people-dodging and wheelie-popping that ensues during the season opener every year.
We buttered the muffin, tail blocked, and did some mean penguin slides and turtle spins. I’m pretty sure we were pissing people off everywhere we went, but hey, it had been a long summer.
Lucky for us, it started snowing. The snow was ankle biting, but there was still enough for us to get rad on. We got super pumped on the sight of snow and decided to embark on the epic search for pow for the remainder of the day.
Yes we found pow, Yes we hit the trees, Yes we ruined boards, and heck ya, it was worth it.
