The Billabong Flaunt It series comes to a close at Mont Tremblant
By Ilissa Maiatico
On Saturday March 29, the fifth, and final, stop of the Billabong Flaunt It series was held at Mont Tremblant during the Telus Spin Symposium. More than 45 girls competed including four special guests. The winners of each provincial stop, Emily Ernst of Nova Scotia, Charmaine Ironside of Alberta, Victoria Marshall from Ontario, and Amber Marsh who claimed the top spot in Vermont, all came to Quebec to take a stab at the prize purse.
The event was held in Tremblant’s terrain park located on north side. With the sun shining, DJ Deanna spinning the 1’s and 2’s and Sabrina Nash, along with Olivier Jolicoeur, emceeing, everyone was pumped to ride. The morning kicked off with a jam-format slopestyle session where the girls dropped in whenever they were ready and took as many runs as they wished. While everyone was spinning 3’s, Claudia Avon went one step further and busted out a huge Cab 5. However, it was Ironside (fresh off competing at the US Open) who threw down a massive Cab 7 to put the icing on the cake.
After a lunch break, everyone returned to the park for an afternoon jib session. The course featured two obstacles: a mini battleship and an up-flat-down. While Magalie Dubois, Ashley Turnbull and Laurie Gauvin constantly killed it, Avon once again displayed her skills and came out on top.
Once the contest came to a close, the awards were handed out and champagne was served (and subsequently sprayed all over the crowd), but the fun didn’t stop there. Shortly after at the Billabong hotel suite, hair and makeup artists were on hand to get the girls looking their best. Once darkness fell, everyone made their way to the gondola. From there they headed to the top of the mountain for the official Coors Light after party where they partied until the early hours of the morning. Big thanks go out to Risto Scott, Catherine Desrochers and Nathan at Billabong Canada for running a great event.
