What’s In Store With Anne-Flore
Oakley Girls camp in Hintertux, Austria
“Hello my name is Anne-Flore and I’m from Euro land. I hate cigarette smoke. I love chocolate, dancing, ice cream, karaoke, yoga, laughing and surfing. My favourite colour is blue and sometimes purple. My favourite trick to do is a Backside180, it’s easy but fantastic.”
This is how the camp started with Silli, Gretchen, Radler, all the girls and me. I’m not sure if I can teach anything aside from how to break your arm, knee and nose but anyways, these girls are all here to have fun and enjoy snowboarding. That I can do for sure.
The first day up there’s a blizzard. We ride all day but can’t see shit. My crew is extra motivated and they keep on riding even when everyone is down already. Only once the lifts close do they finally give up. I was ready for some rest.
Back at the hotel room Silli said, “Let’s go to the gym.” She dragged me in the gym and then in the swimming pool. The pool was cool. All the girls were there with three poor boys lost in the female crowd. We play with it and we follow them around. They pretend we’re not there. There were 23 girls for 3 boys. They got scared and left. Boys are so sensitive. After we had dinner and went to sleep. I was smashed.
The second day was bluebird—sweet. The park was groomed too. On the mountain I find some of my filming buddies. Mone gives me a slash every time he passes me. It’s Aleksi Vanninen’s birthday and the method TV crew is there.
“Ok girls. We’re going to do some runs. What do you want to do? Anything special?”
“I want to ride the box.” “I want to learn how to do an Alley Oop.” “I want to do a 360.” “I want to learn how to jump,” they respond.
“Wow. OK, well, the pipe is super fun today so we’re going to start with that.
We’ll do Alley Oops and we’ll use the very end of the pipe as a mini jump where we’ll do Frontside 180s. Then we’ll hit the rollers and we’ll do some Backside 180s alright.”
Run after run, we were doing the Macarena after the lasso dance in the lift line and the girls were just killing it. By the end of the day they could all do Alley Oops frontside and backside, Cabs, Frontside and Backside 180s, some perfect Frontside 360s too, and box tricks. That’s a lot of new tricks in one day. Plus the girls are cool—I’m having a great time.
Then it’s time for après ski party. I tell the girls, “Let’s dance like mad.” For once I’m not the only one on the dance floor. That’s the best part of hanging out with girls. They’re always up for a good time. Then we get down and all get a massage.
Tonight is the party night. We go up in a typical Austrian Mountain Hut. We order tons of food like wiener schnitzel, schpatzle and some salads. We all jumped on it and the only leftovers are the poor fitness salads. There’s no time to waste on that kind of boring stuff. Then comes Peter and he’s playing an accordion and singing après ski songs. Everyone holds each other’s arm, dances, claps hands and sings. That’s what I call a good time. All our faces were happy. Then we dance. Gretchen loses a bet and gets to dance on the bar. I’m glad I did not play that bet, that’s for sure.
The next day we’re all a little tired but the girls are still cool. They ride no matter what. We have more than snowboarding in common and we share the passion for fun and good times. I still think I’m not any good at teaching anything, but hey, I had such a good time. I can’t wait to do it again.
Thanks to all the Oakley crew and to the girls. The trip was amazing. You can check the Oakley camps at oakley.com and womencamps.o-juice.de
