10 Things You Didn't Know
About Spencer O'Brien
If you're living in a snow cave in the middle of the Antarctic, and you haven't already heard, Spencer O'Brien is rocking some new bling around her neck—an X Games bronze medal. Her flawless first run in the women's slopestyle event landed her on the podium. If you don't already know Spencer then study up, because this girl is popping off.
SHE HAS THE LUCK O’ THE IRISH ON HER SIDE
Actually Spencer is 1/2 Irish and a 1/4 Native Canadian on her mom's side. She claims she "got gypped in the gene pool," because she’s got the Irish skin. Irish skin or not, we think she's pretty hot.
SHE'S THE BABY OF THE FAMILY
Contrary to popular belief, Spencer is the YOUNGER sister of snowboard pro Meghann O'Brien.
2 SCOOPS ARE BETTER THAN 1
Spencer is a treat-aholic. Marble Slab, candied apples, sour keys—you name it, she loves it! On a good day Spencer limits herself to two treats.
SHE WAS A PRIMA BALLERINA
As a teenager Spencer was really into dance. She did everything from modern and jazz to hip hop. In fact, Spencer always used to get in trouble from her volleyball coach for missing practice, not to go snowboarding but to go to dance class.
SHE KEEPS AMERICAN APPAREL IN BUSINESS
She has a bit of an obsession with deep V T-shirts from American Apparel. To date Spencer has 5 deep V's: white, black, grey, peach and purple.
ARACHNOPHOBIA
She may be tough when it comes to shredding, or getting her separated shoulder put back in, but if there's a spider anywhere near her she freaks out. Spencer once spent an entire night running around the Haunted Houses, but the thing that really scared her was a picture of a hairy spider.
CLOSE YOUR MOUTH PLEASE
Spencer hates smiling with her mouth closed because she thinks it makes her look funny. Whenever she does photo shoots for B by Burton catalogues, or magazines the photographers tell her to smile with her mouth closed. 9 times out of 10 her pearly whites are showing.
SHE LOVES PETS
She loves cats and dogs. Spencer has more stories about her friend's pets than she has about her friends. Since Spencer is on the road a lot she doesn't get to see her cat much, so she keeps a picture of Spike next to her bed.
SHE HAS SEEN THE WORLD... ALMOST
Before she was added to the Burton North American Team, Spencer had hardly traveled at all. In the last few years Spencer has been to the States, South America, Asia and Australia, but she has never been to Europe.
SHE'S A NATIONAL CHAMP
In 2002 Spencer won the Canadian Nationals in halfpipe. That's right, she used to be a total pipe jock!
