Everyone's talking about the historical decision ESPN recently made to make all the female prize purses for all events throughout all sports equal to those of the guys starting with Winter X-Games. A huge accomplishment and nod to the level of female sports and the support of ESPN. What most people are not talking about, however, is how the raise in prize purse all started and who helped to make the difference for all female sports. That would be Cara-Beth Burnside, an icon in both snowboarding and skateboarding. Through The Alliance, an organization that CB co founded for professional female skateboarders and other action sports athletes to unite to develop and promote their sport, they have been a the forefront of working with ESPN to help gain more exposure for the female events as well as raising the prize purse, which they successfully did in 2006 for women's skate with a promixe that soon all prizes would be equal. Well, that day has come. Check out The Alliance for the full scoop!
