Summer shredding at Camp of Champions

Recently, I was lucky enough to escape the concrete jungle that is Toronto. I packed my bags, headed west to Whistler and got to spend a few days at Camp of Champions. Their slogan plain and simple is “Get Stoked.” With the Forum team in town, and bluebird skies, the stage was set.

A typical day in camp land goes down like this: Every morning you get suited up, hop on the shuttle bus and head over to 21 Steps for breakfast. From there, you make your way to the Blackcomb base and begin your journey towards the Horstman glacier. Three chairlifts, one bus ride, and one hour later, you’ll arrive at Seventh Heaven and get a view of the sickest park setup you’ve ever seen.

Up on the glacier, you'll spend the day with your coach getting new tricks dialed. After lunch, it's time for the Send It With sessions with the pros. This is when everyone takes turns sessioning an obstacle in the park, before heading back to staff housing.

After shredding comes an array after-camp activities. Over at the compound, there’s everything from Game of Skate contests, to sting pong and dodge ball tournaments. There's also the Dinner and a Movie option, and a weekly sushi outing for the adult campers.

When night falls and exhaustion kicks in, it’s time to head to bed. You'll want to get your beauty rest so you can wake up and live the dream all over again with your newfound friends.

And well, that's about it. All I can really say is that summer doesn’t get must better than this. So start saving your pennies now and check out Camp of Champions for yourself next summer. Until then here's some highlights frrom the final days of Week D.  -Ilissa Maiatico
