Lift Line Poll: How do you stay cool in the heat?

Every week we'll be asking Canadian snowboard gals a different question à la Heathers lunchtime poll. Leave your own answer in the comments.

In the heat of summer I love to go near water to stay cool. I especially love going to nice river spots and swimming, I think they are the best swimming types rather than ocean or lake. I also enjoy eating fresh, cold fruit. –Meghann O’Brien

Pool time, or a spritz of water. –Mercedes Nicoll

I keep cool by closing the doors and the blinds of my house. I'm taking some distance-education courses and the only way to stay productive is to pretend it's not sunny outside. –Helen Schettini

Screamers (soft ice cream and slushie) from Husky and jumping in one of the many lakes around [Whistler] any chance I can get, soooo, like every day. –Molly Milligan

I have impeccable circulation and an immaculate heart rate so my body does it for me.  –Raewyn Reid

The lakes in Whistler are the best—spend all day with rope swings and dock hangs. –Breanna Stangeland

I take some layers off and stash them or gloves off on the way up always helps. –Kara Rennie

I don't stay cool, I loose it and almost always get burned. –Robin Van Gyn

Food!!! Probably a bomb sushi dinner or something of the sort. –Nat Gough

Cheese. –Molly Milligan

Food. –Helen Schettini

I would probably spend it on groceries or gas for my truck. –Jessica Kimura

Coffee fund. $50 bucks can get you almost 10 fine espresso drinks. –Robin Van Gyn

Paying off my credit card from all the fun I have had this winter so I can do it all over again. –Taylor Godber

Shooterrrrrrrrrrrs!! Jack banana hands down! –Magalie Dubois

Lift Line Poll: What's your favourite movie to watch on a rainy day?

Every week we ask Canadian snowboard gals a different question à la Heathers lunchtime poll. Leave your own answer in the comments.

"Gunless." Three guesses why. –Molly Milligan

These aren't movies but I have every season of Seinfeld and you can't beat those reruns on a rainy day. –Helen Schettini

Natural Born Killers, it's a classic! Juliet Lewis is jus' soo fucked up in it! –Magalie Dubois

Probably any or all of the Harry Potter movies. It's so cool. I might be the only one who thinks so though. –Breanna Stangeland

All the Harry Potters, it's a long day and who doesn't love Harry Potter! –Mercedes Nicoll

How to Lose a Guy in Ten Days is pretty up there, it’s a classic girly movie. Shakedown or Afterlame would be my shred flick pick. –Taylor Godber

Fast Times at Ridgemont High. Spicoli, a.k.a. Sean Penn and the surfer bros just kill it. "Aloha, Mr. Hand" –Nat Gough

My favorite thing to watch on a rainy day is a Family Guy or South Park episode marathon, or any snowboard or skateboard video. –Jessica Kimura

My favorite movie right now is probably The Brothers Bloom. If you havn't seen it, you should go watch it. –Raewyn Reid

I love watching The Hulk, I don't know why! Pretty embarrassing but its just an enjoyable movie to watch. –Meghann O’Brien

I am addicted to Weeds, I have watched every episode form the beginning, but I just watch the seasons over—they never get old. –Robin Van Gyn

Lift Line Poll: What was your first snowboard?

About 10 years ago, my parents bought my first snowboard for me—I think it was a Prior and it was way too big and stiff for me. –Helen Schettini

I got a Nitro Glide 148 when I was in Grade 11. My parents bought it for me for Christmas. I had to buy the boots myself so I wore Sorrels for the first few trips. I ended up with a sprained ankle, but it was worth it. –Robin Van Gyn

A Sims All Mountain, it was purple with gold stripes down the middle. I'm sure it was a Christmas pressie from my parents. Oh and don't forget the lowbacks! –Mercedes Nicoll

Rossignol something or other, with the big rooster on the base—got for Christmas to share with the brosef. –Nat Gough

Burton Chopper 118—my parents bought it for me when I was 12! I learned in Nansen at Tremblant and wanted to die. –Magalie Dubois

A flourescent orange K2 JuJu. It was probably too big for me but I loved it. –Molly Milligan

I got my first board for Christmas from my dad, instead of skis. We picked out a Burton Shannon Dunn 144, from a shop called Gold Coast in Courtenay.  It had a dolphin on the bottom and moon and stars on the top which glowed in the dark, and was slate blue on the topsheet.  I rode the crap out of it and loved it so much, I still have it. –Meghann O’Brien

My first snowboard was a Sims Noah Salasnek 156, with the skate trucks on the bottom.  It was super old and shitty when I bought it from the ski swap for 75 bucks, and way too big and heavy for me. The bindings popped off when I was riding down the hill all the time, so I kind of hated snowboarding at first. –Jessica Kimura

Shaun Palmer 156 bought from The Boardroom. –Taylor Godber

My first one I bought was a Forum Destroyer—I had to convince my dad for months the buy it. Finally went to Freewheelin' store that used to be in Calgary and got it. Good thing I got it like 10 cm too big. –Breanna Stangeland

My first board was a Burton Chopper at the Martock ski swap in '99? –Alex Duckworth

It was a little tan Vision snowboard. My parents surprised my sister and I with them for Christmas when I was eleven. Best Christmas gift I have received to date. Thanks Santa! –Raewyn Reid

Lift Line Poll: Weirdest thing about ski towns?

Every week we'll be asking Canadian snowboard gals a different question à la Heathers lunchtime poll. Leave your own answer in the comments.

People that choose to live in ski towns and pay the outrageous prices for accommodation, dead season wages, tourists and drama and still have never been up the mountain. –Taylor Godber

Everybody knows everything about everyone. Then again, whats not weird about ski towns? –Raewyn Reid

The mentality of them is weird. It's weird that there seems to be no middle class, just ultra rich and dirtbags. Also, bars. –Meghann O’Brien

The tight-pant penguin waddle. Or the baggy snowpants around your knees so your entire boxers are showing. Those two are tied. –Molly Milligan

The best: the crazy mountain die-hards who look like leather face and go up in hail storms. Cross dressing: It's a fashion bubble where people think it is somehow ok to wear felt dread hats and girls dress like Criss Cross on a regular basis. Blows my mind. –Robin Van Gyn

The ski bunnies. –Mercedes Nicoll

They are bubbles. It seems that you're not in reality and it's all a dream. –Helen Schettini

There's always those random chicks (and guys!) that end up living in town for a couple months or couple years and leave after they randomly hooked up with the whole local scene, classic! –Magalie Dubois

You might as well be living in a bubble with how sheltered they are. –Nat Gough

The people that don't ski or snowboard or do any of the outdoor activites. Really? What are you doing here? I can only think of one thing...haha –Breanna Stangeland
