Volcom loves SBC's Women's Annual

I cruised into the Volcom Headquarters yesterday to hand deliver this years SBC Women’s Annual to Volcom’s Women’s Team Manager, Ebonee Spence.  Ebonee was stoked on the recent issue especially the great coverage that Jess Kimura got throughout the magazine from her solid trick tip sequence, So Hot, and Spread in the Framed Feature.   Ebonee hung out with Jess this past winter in Mammoth and was stoked on her riding, attitude and determination. “It’s refreshing to see Jess out there, stoked to shred and charging it going bigger then most girls even with a torn rotator cuff. Even after some gnarly bails she would chill ice up a bit and get back up there.”  After perusing the rest of the mag Ebonee took me for a special treat to check out Volcom’s Company store which opened this past March. The store if for Volcom Employees and their family, team riders, and invited guests. As an invited guest I got a tour of the whole shop that’s packed full or all of Volcom’s latest clothing for men and women, everything from jeans, tees, dresses, socks, wallets, scarfs, beanies, you name it it was in there. The uber stylish Ebonee showed me all their hottest pieces and helped pick out a sweet outfit for me! Thanks Eb!

Ebonee with her favorite mag!

Ebonee showing me the company store, full of all of Volcom's latest gear!

The wall's are covered with all of Volcom's unique Art, Ads, and images including a collage of random pics of employees, riders, and party goers at Volcom's legendary tradeshow booths

What's a girl to do with so many options?

When in doubt Ebonee can help you choose, check out the stylish purses and wallets!

With a little help from Ebonee Im going to look good and stay warm in this faux fur lined vest

Thanks Ebonee and Volcom!

This Video Sucks Premier

The highly anticipated team video from Stepchild and Thirtytwo, “This Video Sucks” was released online September 9, 2009. Well, not quite.  Stepchild has always been known to go against the grain in their marketing, team, and advertisement and with this collab have decided to release the video unlike any snowboard video has been released.  The video will be released part by part from beginning to end of this full length feature online on both the Stepchild Website and Transworld website. The first part the intro of the video was released on September 9, 2009 and this past Wednesday the opening segment was released showcasing the skills of smooth rail rider Simon Chamberlain. Once each part has been released you will be able to download the video in it’s entirety for FREE!  I like the sound of that!

Unable to wait each week for the new parts to release I headed up to the Sole Technologies offices for a screening of the entire video for a crowd of enthusiastic shredders and industry heads.  Leading up the premier invited guest were allowed to skate Sole Technologies private indoor skatepark, The Training Facility. After sweating around in the park it was tacos washed down by beer before taking a seat to watch it on the big screen. I wont spoil the vid as it’s pretty exciting to check in every week to get a new clip but I have to say all the riders stepped it up in this video.

Go to Stepchilds site to check out the recent release of Simon’s part

Forum Forever and Standards Black Winter Premier

Forum Forever and Standards, Black Winter premiered last night at the historic Balboa Theatre in the Gaslamp Quarter of San Diego.  A massive performing arts venue that hosts off-broadway plays, opera’s, and musical presentations a packed crowd of snowboarders seemed a bit odd in such a regal venue but with the usual beer and Monster flowing things got familiar pretty quick.  All the top shredders and industry heads were in the house to watch the new flicks.

First vid to hit the huge screen was Forever Forum. True to it’s roots the video had a good team vibe and creativity.  Pat Moore opened up with a solid part mixing up urban features, backcountry and park.  Forums Youngblood section was a splattering of trickery assault as double corks and massive jumps from a handful of up and comers shot across the screen. Norwegian Daniel Ek stomped a solid backside rodeo 1080. John Jackson closed out the video with some sick backcountry jumps and some serious threading the needle chutes.

A change over when the big budget production Black Winter lit up the screen. Years of experience filming and editing shows in this production. Standard regulars Torstein Horgmo, Eric Jackson, Mark Landvik, Andreas Wiig, and Xavier Delerue were joined by Canadians Jason Dubois, Seb Toots, Andrew Geeves, and Leanne Pelosi. the only female in the video Leanne had a small but tight part with technical rail tricks as she board slid through kinked rails, stomped a board slide to 270 out, and got tight on a 50-50 toe jam in Quebec.  Extreme rider Xavier Delerue took it to the next level with some insane lines and drops that made me nervous just watching. Getting buried last year in an avalanche certainly hasn’t slowed this guy down!  This video covered all aspects of snowboarding, something for everyone.

Get Real and Nice Try Video Premier

It’s the beginning or “Premier Week” down in San Diego, CA as ASR has come to the San Diego Convention Center bringing top action sports brands and athletes to town. With such a large crew of industry, media, and athletes in town it’s the perfect time for video’s to premier and everyone to get together and celebrate all the pervious seasons hardwork.

Last night I headed to the new Transworld offices located in Carlsbad, CA to check out Transworlds “Get Real” and People’s “Nice Try”. With drinks from Monster and plenty of Budlights in the house the party kicked off early as people mingled, ate taco’s and headed next door to K1 Racing for a little go-kart action.  The crowd was hyped as the first video of the night, “Get Real”  hit the screen. Transworlds second full length snow video was a hit with a mix of riding. It’s always a little hard to watch video’s at premiers like this cuz someone’s always coming up to chat or walking in front of you but I was sure to keep focused Canada’s Mickey Rencz who had a solid backcountry part and Jed Anderson who took home last part with a multitude of technical rail tricks.  After a quick break “Nice Try” hit the screen with loud up beat music this video drew you in right from the intro and all the way through with sick riding, good music, and a high level of filming and editing.  Zach Marben opened the video and Seth Huot ended it with a mix of backcountry banger, technical rail tricks, and some pretty painful looking slams.  I can’t wait to get copies of both vids so I can sit down and watch them both uninterrupted!

Action Sports TV Commentator Tina Dixon, Roberta Rodger, and Volcom Team Manager Ebonee Spence

Packed crowd in the house!

Monster's Cody Dresser, Seth Huot, and JP Walker

Billabong's Amy Botts, TWBiz Rob Cambell and Tina Dixon

Volcom's Bonnie Kuntz and Roberta Rodger

There were plenty of drinks to go around but Jardine and Heather still doubled up!

Toronto time!

I spent the past week in Toronto at the SBC offices working on the upcoming Women’s Annual which is set to hit newsstands early in October. It was a great time hanging with the SBC Women’s Annual crew, John Scarth, Dean Seguin, and Dave Amos working together on the final details of the issue. Can’t believe this is going to be the 4th issue and we’re all really stoked on how it’s looking and I hope you guys are just as excited when you get it in your hands. It’s definitely making me excited for the winter.

I felt like quite the Torontonian while I was there, staying downtown at the hip and trendy Gladstone Hotel and taking the streetcar to the office everyday. While I was there I tried some local raw food restaurants and even got Dean and John to join me at Rawilicious one night. Lucky for me while I was in town Absinthe’s Neverland Premier tour came through. For me this movie was the movie I wanted to see the most after seeing epic photos of both Annie and MFR I was excited to see their parts. Well they didn’t disappoint, smooth style, hard charging riders really pushing the boundaries of women’s backcountry riding along side the top male riders in the field. I can’t wait to see it again, if you get a chance go to a premier or better yet pick up a copy at your local shop and get amped for the upcoming winter season!

You know you're in Canada when you see police on horses!

John was pretty stoked on his Pesto Zuchetti with nut balls, yum! Seriously!

MFR, Annie, and Bode Merril at the Neverland premier.

My last day in Toronto was SBC Editor Scott Birkes Birthday so we went to Thai for lunch to celebrate!
